After a period of silence, recovering from FUDCon KL 2012, Fedora Malaysia is now getting back on its feet for 2013 with more FOSS awesomeness.
On 23rd February 2013, we will be having our first Fedora Activity Day Kuala Lumpur (FADKL) for 2013, and we will be covering about the new shiny FOSS PaaS platform developed by Red Hat : OpenShift.
Tentatively, here are the sessions which we will be having:
For the workshop, you will need to have an account on openshift.redhat.com , and bring your own computer running any Linux distribution (bonus if its Fedora .. hehe). We likely be covering the DIY cartridge for the workshop, but that is not a rule, we can cover other cartridges too if there are demand.

See you there!!.
Our swags and T-Shirt arrived today. With just less than 56 hours left to FUDCon Kuala Lumpur, we are starting to feel the heat.
We have sent out our guidebook yesterday to registered attendees (which reached 460 registrants today). For those how just registered and did not receive it, download it by clicking this link.
No T-shirt (170units) picture? .. well .. its in a huge thick plastic wrap and I do not want to open it yet as it'll be difficult to store afterwards.
Remember that swags are limited and are given by early register early & early arrive basis. The early 50 registrants on the website (excluding crew & volunteers) we will hold on to your swags for until 9:30AM, if you did not turn up by then, we'll give it away to those who arrived early.
We plan to open the registration booth on 8:30AM Friday.
See you on Friday!

We will be having a meeting for FUDCon KL funding approval on Friday, 23rd March 2012, 14:00 UTC at #fudcon-planning. Those who have applied for funding, please attend this meeting.
Thanks to the Fedora Design Team, we had several great suggestions for FUDCon KL logo. In the local volunteer / team meeting today, the team have decided to choose a logo designed by bckurera for official FUDCon KL logo.
Credits to bckurera for this beautiful logo.
In another side of the news, after two weeks of development, the FUDCon Kuala Lumpur 2012 site is now up and running. We have transferred the registrations and sessions over to the system and you may browse them directly on the site. To those who wishes to update their profile on the site, please login using your Fedora Open ID and email me (email@example.com) a request to gain access to your registration profile. Those who have submission sessions and are listed in the speakers list, we would be really grateful if you can fill in your photo and profile.
The site is powered on Plone using a conference management add-on specially developed for FUDCon KL and future FAD KL which you may grab from the GIT repository here: https://github.com/inigoconsulting/collective.conference/

On 28th January 2012, Fedora Malaysia, along with the folks from UCTI FOSS Special Interest Group, organized our second barcamp-styled mini FUDCon. Just like the last year, it was hosted at APIIT/UCTI. Our initial number of registrants were 28, however only 20 attendees turned up during the day.
The event opened doors at 10:00, and the first session started around 11:15. The first session and an introduction to FOSS Software was started by none other than Izhar Firdaus, a.k.a KageSenshi, and the topic being; "What is FOSS?". The first session was aimed at new comers to UCTI FOSS SIG so that they understand what Free & Open Source Software meant, and a refresher to those who have heard about FOSS as well.
We managed to hold 7 sessions altogether. Topics ranging from Fedora, FOSS to how/why it is important for students to adopt FOSS/Fedora. The sessions given were as follows; "What is FOSS?", "Contributing to Fedora", "Fedora Freemedia Program" - a talk and a discussion about Freemedia, "Me and Fedora", "Leap of #FAIF: Why Free Software Matters", "AppRepo: Finding Linux Apps made easy" and lastly about the discussion for our Malaysia APAC "FUDCon" bidding. For the "FUDCon" sessions, we discussed about dividing roles and what issues/things/stuffs should be solved/made before and during the FUDCon, if we were to win the bid and host FUDCon here in APIIT/UCTI, Malaysia.
The session ended around 17:00, although some of us stayed around until 18:00 to talk about Fedora and sharing some tips & tricks that some of us may have missed. And as the venue was only available until 18:00, those of us that stayed behind until 18:00 parted ways around 18:15.
We will probably be having another FAD, this year 2012, just haven't set any date yet. So, please do keep an eye on our Fedora.my Blog and Fedora.my Events Page for further announcements. The photos for this FAD is available at our resident photographer/Fedora user - Muhd Syazwan Md Khusaini's FADKL January 2012 album and our IRC #fedora-my resident Meng Shen Lim's FADKL 2012 Photo Set.
To attendees who have taken photos and would like to archive it here, please send a link of your photos to firstname.lastname@example.org

On 10th September 2011, Fedora Malaysia organized our first barcamp style FUDCon. Hosted at UCTI/APIIT, we managed to get 65 registrants, however only 28 attendees turn up during the day.
The event opened doors on 9:00, and the first session started on 11:00, with an introductory session led Izhar Firdaus (KageSenshi) , where our sponsors, UCTI/APIIT, Abyres, and Red Hat are given some time to pitch about their companies and about FOSS. Those who are going to hold a session were also given 2 minutes time to pitch about their talks.
We manage to hold 5 talk sessions (Research paper writing in Fedora, Fedora cloud and virtualization initiative, Making the plunge from proprietary to FOSS, GNOME3 shell extensions, and Mozilla in Fedora), 1 workshop session (Composing your next music hit album on Fedora), and 2 discussion sessions (Team activity for fun & profit, Fedora Malaysia : Moving forward). The day ended at around 5:30pm.
We will be doing another FAD early next year, hopefully around either January or February, so those who are in Malaysia during those months, keep an eye for our announcements later.
Photos are uploaded here.
After almost a year of almost silence, fedora-my is back.We will be doing more activities this next one year, one of it is a regular Fedora Activity Day to gather local Fedora enthusiast to share knowledge, and to hack on stuff.
